The Homeland Security Innovation Conference showcases Charleston as a model community for homeland security initiatives, innovative security technologies, resiliency planning and new opportunities for public and private applications.

The conference attracts attendees from all over the country including government contractors, military leaders, business executives, economic development professionals, safety managers, first responders, homeland security consultants and researchers.

This year attendees will be given access to the following topics and attractions:

  • DHS initiatives update by the Honorable Jay Cohen, Under Secretary of Science and Technology for the Department of Homeland Security
  • Opening Reception at North Charleston Fire Museum
  • The SAFE Port Act and how Charleston has implemented the specifics of the legislation since it passed.
  • Resiliency relating to economic recovery from disasters, data recovery for health information, and resource recovery in coastal communities.
  • Back by Popular Demand!  Dr. Robert Friedmann, Professor of Criminal Justice at Georgia State University will present: From understanding to action: Defining and refining the complex war on terrorism.
  • Technology demonstrations showcasing the latest high-tech equipment used in homeland security by both the private and public sector.
  • Exhibition Hall - where companies from all over the country will demonstrate their homeland security related products.
  • Innovation Isle - a separate exhibition area where South Carolina new and emerging companies can present their new homeland security technologies.
  • Guided tours of SPAWAR technologies and information on doing business with SPAWAR and securing government contracts.
